• Shame as Embu and Nyeri fire engines arrive to put off the Kerugoya fire.
• Kirinyaga fire engines were reported malfunctional.
Story by Sammie Mugane
Huge fire engulfed Velvet and Carpets Center shop and other adjacent businesses near Cleanshelf Supermarket and foodstuffs market on Thursday around 8pm in Kerugoya Town, Kirinyaga County.
Unfortunately Kirinyaga County fire engines were reported malfunctional and could not contain the inferno on time.
Fire engines from Embu and Nyeri had to be called in to help extinguish the fire which frantic locals were unable to contain.
Following the aftermath irate members of public blamed the county's ill disaster response and management citing the fire could have been contained on time if the said 'malfunctional' fire engines would have been in good state as supposed to be.
More destruction from the inferno would have been averted.

The county spent millions of shillings from the coffers to procure the fire equipment which seems not to help the taxpayers in cases of emergency.

The ongoing construction of multimillion ultramodern County Fire Station in Kutus Town also seems to have taken longer than expected thus becoming an eyesore as time goes by.
