Gospel singer Rachel Wandeto has died days after she was attacked by unknown assailants, MORGAN MEDIA has confirmed.

She has been undergoing treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital after being admitted with severe burn injuries.

She had been rushed to the facility following an attack in the Kasarani–Mwiki area, where she was allegedly doused with petrol and set on fire by unknown assailants.

The incident came months after Wandeto went viral after tattooing the face of President William Ruto alongside slogans associated with his re-election campaign. The move reportedly led to her husband of ten years leaving her following differences over their political ideologies.

The assailants are said to have assaulted her claiming she had received funds for supporting the president. When she reportedly said she had no money, they allegedly poured petrol on her and set her on fire. The incident sparked widespread outrage online, with artistes and members of the public condemning the attack and calling for justice.

Gospel singer Karangu Muraya earlier led a blood donation drive in an effort to save her life as she was prepared for surgery.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen also visited her in hospital after the surgery, pledging government support and promising that investigations would be pursued to bring those responsible to justice.

Investigations into the gruesome incident are underway.

The victim, identified as Jackline Wanjiru, a mother of one, was reportedly heading to Kiritiri Market to carry out her daily miraa business when she was ambushed on Saturday, May 16, by men on a motorcycle.

The attackers are said to have splashed a liquid suspected to be acid on the two victims without any confrontation before fleeing under the cover of darkness.

Residents who heard loud screams rushed to the area and found the victims writhing in pain on the ground with severe burns.

She was rushed to Embu Level Five Hospital for treatment, but she succumbed to severe burns on her face, chest, and lower body despite doctors’ efforts.
