MWEA FEMICIDES: Woman Killed Over 500/=, Another Murdered Over Radio

Femicide cases have been reported in Mwea this week in 2 separate incidents.

Sleuths in Mwea East Sub-County, Kirinyaga County, have arrested a 35-year-old man suspected of murdering a 36-year-old woman in Nderwa Village, Tebere Ward.

The suspect, identified as Samuel Mumo Ngari, was positively identified twice by the victim’s Grade 8 son during an identification exercise conducted at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices in Wang’uru. 

The son had witnessed the culprit mercilessly beating up his mother and layer raised alarm which attracted his uncle and other relatives.

Mumo was demanding Ksh 500 he had lend to Sarafina Wanja which she didn't have at the moment prompting him to brutally attack her.

She succumbed to severe injuries inflicted on her at Mwea Mission Hospital where she had been taken for medical attention.

Elsewhere in Kiandegwa village in the same sub-county, a husband killed his wife over an argument on whereabouts of family radio.

53 year old Peris Njoki Wanjohi was not at home when her husband Alexander Chomba took and sold family Sunking radio to get money for local brew. When she returned home she asked him where it was and an argument ensued.

The husband dashed to the kitchen, grabbed a knife and stabbed her severally as their daughter watched in utter shock. She fell down afterwards and went silent.

The daughter's screams attracted the neighbors who rushed Peris to Mwea Mission Hospital. She was confirmed dead upon arrival. The suspect was arrested by police thereafter for further probe on the matter.

Both bodies are preserved in the morgue awaiting postmortem and later interment.
