KANYEKINI WARD: 2 Men & 1 Woman Arrested In Cattle Theft Syndicate

The proverbial 40 days dawned on the 3 cattle thieves who were apprehended early this morning after stealing 2 bulls.

The culprits, 2 men and a woman have been terrorizing residents of Kiamuthambi in the spate of cattle thefts in Kanyei Sub-location, Kanyekini Ward, Kirinyaga Central, Kirinyaga County.

 John Njiraini, Jacob Chomba and Nancy were arrested after stealing 2 bulls belonging to Muriithi Ngiri on Monday 11th, May 2026 at Rurii village near Kiamuthambi Polytechnic.

One of the eye witnesses who saw them commit the crime trailed them to where they took the cattle and later reported the matter to police who ambushed and intercepted them.

 They are currently held at Kiamaciri Police Station for further probing.

It is suspected they had planned to slaughter off the animals unsuspected and may be colluding with local butchers and other cattle theft syndicates around.

There has been spate of cattle theft within the county. Most of the stolen animals are slaughtered by the thieves and never recovered by owners.

Investigations revealed that the group includes not only the thieves themselves but also buyers, transporters, and butchers who play various roles in the livestock theft network.

 Irate members of public often take law in their hands when they apprehend unlucky culprits.

The thefts have resulted in substantial financial losses for farmers and have disrupted cattle farming being a primary source of livelihood.
