There was drama last night (Thursday) at Kangu Village in Mwea-East, Kirinyaga County after three suspected criminals allegedly waylaid and attempted to carjack a prominent local farmer at his homestead in the area.
John Bundi Ndambiri, the victim, narrated how the incidence unfolded as he waited for his gate to be opened at around 8pm.
“Two men entered my vehicle and one tried to push me out while another shouted, ‘shoot him.’ I quickly realized the object he was wielding was a hammer. I raised the alarm and managed to escape,”
Bundi fled towards the Mwea–Embu highway, about 200 metres from his homestead, yelling for help.
His alarming cries attracted residents who quickly responded for his aid.
The irate locals and set ablaze a getaway vehicle believed to have been used by the suspects.
“There were three attackers, including one who remained inside the vehicle. I suspect they had been trailing me the whole day. I believe they intended to abduct me and take me to an unknown destination,” Bundi added.
The irate villagers mete their anger on a car which a car believed to be a getaway and set it alight reducing it to a mangled wreckage.
They later mounted a search for the suspects who escaped and hid in a nearby thicket.
It is believed the criminals wanted to hijack or even kidnap the victim to steal or harm him in the botched hijack and robbery attempt.
Police officers from Wang’uru Police Station, led by Kirimara Location Chief Naftaly Ndege, rushed to the scene to confirm the incident.
The area chief assured speedy investigations will be launched to unravel the matter to curb further incidences like this one.
He promised security will be harnessed and criminals get weeded out.
