Fridah Wairimu Wambura, aged 39 from Kithiriti in Mwea Constituency, Kirinyaga County happens to have succumbed depression. She is not new to the residents of Kutus and neighbouring towns.
She mostly used to camp at the Kutus carpark lot adjacent to Kutus Comprehensive School near the transportation lorries where she would smoke, chew miraa wastes and make all necessary noise that would make her happy.
She got engrossed to this lifestyle which according to her was normal life.
Mostly she would be cladded in tatters and would barely take bath - she minded her own business. π
She would brave all the challenges of weather as she had no shelter to scamper from rain, scorching sun and for safety.
Many knew her as 'chizi wa Kutus' (Kutus mad woman) but now is currently totally healed from the condition. While being interviewed by Morgan Media Tv Fridah disclosed she has been battling with acute depression for sometime, a condition which took her to the streets as a beggar and mentally handicapped casualty.

Fridah used to be a miraa trader and had thrived well in the business. Worst happened after separating from her estranged husband. Fridah seemed okey but ostensibly had gradually sunk into depression and dejection from her friends and close family members who could not understand and feel her plight.
Eventually she moved in to the streets of Kutus where she scavenged food from trash bins and garbage skips. She literally made the streets her home where she slept and enjoyed her life. This also made her to become a victim of drug addiction where she smoke and chewed miraa wastes... An ending sad story about Fridah can not be penned down here.... She really suffered in the streets until a time for her life turn-around came.
Fridah was later taken to hospital on 26th September 2025 where she was diagnosed with acute depression. She was admitted for 2 months, treated and given a prescription of antidepressant drugs which alleviated the condition. She got into a consistent medication and now she confesses she is fully healed and normal. She confessed to me she is not the same abnormal person she was in the streets. I remember when she was in that condition I could buy her some foodstuffs hoping one day she would get healed and fully recover.
She is now a happy, healthy, demure and bubbly lady.
Am glad she was able to confide to me many things about depression as we enjoyed breakfast together in a hotel in Kutus Town.
