Kerugoya Prison Inmate Freed After 20 Years In Jail For A Phonecall

Story by Sammie Mugane

Have just listened to Inooro FM news this morning of a man who was released from Kerugoya yesterday after spending 20 years behind bars.

There was jamboree, pomp and jubilations at Kerugoya Prison after Joseph Murimi from Kanjai, Ndia, Kirinyaga County was finally released from the prison gates.

His family members and friends thronged and milled at the prison precincts to usher him back to the world of freedom as he bade goodbye to the walls of the penitentiary.

Murimi was jailed allegedly for defiling a minor, a crime he did not commit.

What actually transpired to have him jailed?

On one fateful day while in his working station at Kerugoya where he worked for a matatu SACCO, a female student approached him and requested him to assist her with his phone she make a call which he did with a good heart.

Unbeknownst to him the girl was later defiled according to reports and he was the first prime suspect.

He got apprehended, arraigned  in court and jailed for a defile; his freedom got curtailed and terminated forthwith. He had to innocently bear the reproach for a crime he never committed...

This is a wake up call to all of us: however kind you are let your phone be like a hanky which you can't share with anyone.

Do not help a stranger with your phone to call or text.

This may be the genesis of many problems you will land into.

Instead what I do I give them even if it's 10 bob they buy airtime to be more safe.

We are in a very cruel world where everyone wants to take advantage of a situation without minding about your peace and safety.

Many often get implicated for crimes they never committed just because they gave strangers and criminals access to their phones which used to make calls or send texts in what would later turn tables against them.

Minimize any leeway of strangers accessing your phone.

Harness all unauthorized encroachments to your mobile devices especially your phone by strangers...

Murimi now has some sigh of relieve and can happily enjoy his freedom back but has learnt a lesson the hard way which all of us need to be be reminded about.

Everyone is a welcomed guest to jails through diverse and unheeded ways.

Most of the inmates interviewed on Njera CiitΓΊ are victims of such cases.

Take care of your phone to minimize eventual problems.

Chunga simu yako nani!!! πŸ“±

Blessed weekend!
