• "Safaricom is complicit and a facilitator in the tracing & abduction of Kenyans who have ended up dead or maimed like the case of Albert Ojwang'." - Former CS Justin Muturi
• "At no point was there any contact between Safaricom and any security agency in investigating or arresting the late Albert," - Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa
Kenya's leading telco, Safaricom PLC, has distanced itself and denied any involvement in the arrest of Albert Omondi Ojwang, a social media commentator whose death in police custody has sparked national outrage.
This follows after claims that it provided sensitive data to security agencies, following remarks by former Attorney General Justin Muturi.
The telco has denied aiding abductions, refuting direct contact with security agencies and affirming legal data-sharing compliance.
In the statement, the Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa emphasized that the company had no contact with law enforcement regarding Ojwang’s arrest and only learned about it through media reports.
"At no point was there any contact between Safaricom and any security agency in investigating or arresting the late Albert,"
The company also reassured customers of its commitment to data privacy and security, urging Kenyans to demand transparency and accountability from authorities.
