Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairperson Wafula Chebukati is critically ill.

The former IEBC boss is admitted to a hospital in Nairobi where he has been undergoing treatment for nearly a week.

Hospital sources said the Former IEBC boss is admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at the hospital.

"We are monitoring his situation at the ICU," the source said.

What Chebukati ails from remains private.

Close family sources disclosed the former IEBC boss has been undergoing treatment at home and was taken to the Hospital after the situation got dire. 

According to reports, most of his organs have ceased functioning, and the family was informed this morning and asked to make a decision regarding the continuation of life-support machines.

At this difficult moment, Chebukati's family is facing the challenging decision of whether to switch off the life-support systems, which are currently maintaining his vital functions.

Chebukati served as IEBC chair for a full term of six years and retired in January 2023.

He presided over the 2017 and 2022 General Elections
